Shanlie Smiley Killed in a Crash on September 16, 2022 in Sedgwick County, Kansas

Shanlie Tatyana Smiley of Wichita, Kansas was killed on Friday, September 16, 2022 at 03:30 AM in Sedgwick County, Kansas. Smiley is a 23-year-old woman.

Vehicle 1 [the 2011 Chevrolet Malibu driven by Shanlie Smiley] was northbound on I135 at milepost 12.2. The vehicle left the roadway on the right and struck a guardrail. The vehicle bounced off the guardrail, traveled back across the interstate, left the roadway on the left and struck a cement bridge pillar in the center median. Vehicle 1 [the 2011 Chevrolet Malibu driven by Shanlie Smiley] came to rest in the center median. The driver was not wearing a seatbelt. Airbags deployed and the driver was trapped in the vehicle.

Injuries

Smiley's injuries were fatal. Smiley was taken by ambulance to Sedgwick County Forensics Science Center.

In order to get the report through the KSHP website, you must create a Kansas.gov account and give them your credit card. You must agree to be subject to Kansas Statute 45-230: Unlawful Use of Names Derived from Public Records. This statute imposes on those subject to it "a civil penalty in an action brought by the attorney general or county or district attorney" of up to "$500 for each violation." Further, unless you qualify under the Federal Driver's Privacy Protection Act, the report you get will have important and necessary information such as photographs, social security numbers, driver license numbers, names, addresses and telephone numbers redacted (blacked out).
