Darwin Dammann Killed in a Crash on October 23, 2021 on the Kansas Turnpike

Darwin Dammann of Avoca, Iowa was killed on Saturday, October 23, 2021 at 02:06 PM on the Kansas Turnpike. Dammann is a 60-year-old man.

Vehicle 2 [the 2019 FREIGHTLINER SEMI driven by Ibrahim Bashir] was traveling southbound on KTA I-35, partially on the outside shoulder and outside lane. Vehicle 2 [the 2019 FREIGHTLINER SEMI driven by Ibrahim Bashir] was experiencing mechanical issues, which forced the vehicle to remain at a slow rate of speed. While attempting to move onto the shoulder, Vehicle 2 [the 2019 FREIGHTLINER SEMI driven by Ibrahim Bashir] was struck in the rear by Vehicle 1 [the 2007 PETERBILT SEMI driven by Darwin Dammann]. Driver 1 [Darwin Dammann] was ejected from his vehicle. Vehicle 2 [the 2019 FREIGHTLINER SEMI driven by Ibrahim Bashir] was forced partially off the roadway.

Injuries

Dammann's injuries were fatal. Dammann was taken by ambulance to Wesley.

Vehicle Damage

The police said the 2007 Peterbilt Semi with Iowa license plate number FA5211 damage was not functional. This vehicle was insured. NATIONAL CONTINENTAL INSURANCE CO insured this vehicle. This vehicle was removed by a tow service.

In order to get the report through the KSHP website, you must create a Kansas.gov account and give them your credit card. You must agree to be subject to Kansas Statute 45-230: Unlawful Use of Names Derived from Public Records. This statute imposes on those subject to it "a civil penalty in an action brought by the attorney general or county or district attorney" of up to "$500 for each violation." Further, unless you qualify under the Federal Driver's Privacy Protection Act, the report you get will have important and necessary information such as photographs, social security numbers, driver license numbers, names, addresses and telephone numbers redacted (blacked out).
