John Thompson Injured in a Crash on August 6, 2019 in Greenwood County, Kansas

John Q Thompson of Wichita, Kansas was involved in a crash on Tuesday, August 6th 2019 at 2:38 pm in Greenwood County, Kansas. Thompson is a 30-year-old man.

In the crash, Thompson was driving a 2001 International Semi. The crash happened here: US Highway 54 Milemarker 284 or 100 yards from Eureka, KS The police described the crash like this:

Vehicle 1 was traveling eastbound, on U54 Highway, in the outside (south) lane leaving Eureka. A truck tractor and trailer was traveling eastbound, on U54 Highway, in the inside (north) lane leaving Eureka. Vehicle 1 attempted to pass the truck tractor as the outside lane was coming to an end. Vehicle 1 left the roadway to the right, onto the gravel shoulder, and overcorrected to the left. Vehicle 1 moved to the left in front of the truck tractor and began traveling, eastbound, sideways. Vehicle 1 crossed the eastbound lane, the center line, and the westbound lane. Vehicle 2 was traveling westbound, on U54 Highway, and when the driver saw Vehicle 1 he attempted to avoid Vehicle 1 by moving Vehicle 2 to the right. Vehicle 2 struck Vehicle 1s passenger side. Vehicle 1 came to rest on the north shoulder facing south. Vehicle 2 came to rest in the north ditch facing westbound.

Injuries

The police said that Thompson had no apparent injury. Thompson may have gone to the hospital.

How To Get the Highway Patrol Report

The Kansas State Highway Patrol Trooper with badge number K523 wrote up the report. The highway patrol assigned case number 2019-011733 to this crash. The KSHP charges $5.00 for each copy of the report plus additional fees of $2.00 for each witness statement. But you can call 877-925-1969 to request a free copy of the report. In order to get the report through the KSHP website, you must create a Kansas.gov account and give them your credit card. You must agree to be subject to Kansas Statute 45-230: Unlawful Use of Names Derived from Public Records. This statute imposes on those subject to it "a civil penalty in an action brought by the attorney general or county or district attorney" of up to "$500 for each violation."
